The Commonwealth Farm
About the place
The Commonwealth Farm is a full scale reconstruction of a Viking Age settlement in southern Iceland. The farm was built based on archaeological remains of a real settlement destroyed by volcanic ash in the early medieval period. Stone walls, turf roofs, and timber structures blend naturally into the surrounding landscape. Inside the longhouse, visitors can see an open hearth and interiors reflecting daily life of Viking farmers. The site is widely known as a filming location for a famous fantasy television series.
