Thjofafoss Waterfall

Þjófafoss is a wide, powerful waterfall on the Þjórsá, Iceland's longest river at around 230 km, set in the volcanic interior of the south. Pale glacial water fans out across the channel and drops in a broad sheet around a small rocky island, while the dark cone of Mount Búrfell rises behind it and black lava and ash surround the basin. Its grim name means "Thieves' Falls", after the condemned were once drowned in its pool as punishment.
