Trod Scenic Lookout

Tröð is an easy roadside lookout on Route 61 near Súðavík, in the Westfjords, named after the old farm that once stood here. It sits above the broad waters of Ísafjarðardjúp, and stepping from the car opens a panorama around the horizon — fjords layered one behind another, the still water of Álftafjörður, and ranks of mountains fading into the distance. There is room to picnic and no walking, which makes it a natural place to break the long drive. On clear, dark nights it also works for the northern lights.
