Raudasandur Beach

About the place
Raudasandur Beach stretches for nearly ten kilometers along the southern coast of the Westfjords. The wide sandy shoreline contrasts with dark cliffs and the turquoise waters of the ocean. Unlike most Icelandic beaches, Raudasandur Beach is formed from crushed seashells rather than volcanic basalt. At low tide, shallow reflective pools appear, creating a sense of vast open space. The beach is also known for its seal colony, which can often be seen resting on the sandbanks.
