Golden Beach

About the place
Golden Beach — Tungurif in Icelandic — is a cove of golden, shell-flecked sand on the south side of Patreksfjörður bay, backed by steep cliffs and looking across the water to the town. In sun the sea turns a shallow turquoise rare for Iceland; under the region's usual cloud it fades to beige, so time the stop with the weather. It stays far quieter than Rauðasandur or Látrabjarg, it's free and open, and many people take it in from the road above.
