Olafsviti Lighthouse

Olafsviti Lighthouse

About the place

Ólafsviti stands at the southern mouth of Patreksfjörður, in the Westfjords, where the fjord opens to the Atlantic. Built of concrete in the 1940s, it is a slim working tower below high cliffs, not a postcard beacon. It hides around a headland, so from land you drive straight past unless you know to look. Reaching it means a rough track off the Örlygshöfn road and a walk at the end; many just take in the setting from a distance.
