Hnjótur Museum

Hnjótur Museum occupies the farm of the same name, on the long gravel road out to the Látrabjarg cliffs. The farmer Egill Ólafsson spent decades gathering the boats, tools, clothes and machines of ordinary life in the southern Westfjords, and by his death in 1999 the hoard had become a fully fledged folk museum. Salvaged boats and aircraft stand outside; one exhibition covers the 1947 rescue of the British trawler Dhoon. There is a café and a small shop.
