Icelandic Sea Monster Museum

Icelandic Sea Monster Museum

About the place

The village of Bíldudalur stands on Arnarfjörður, the fjord with Iceland's longest record of monster sightings, and it keeps those stories in a museum on the waterfront. The museum gathers the accounts of people who say they saw a creature of the deep — pictures, recordings, half-dark rooms. Icelandic monsters here fall into four kinds: shore laddie, merman, shell monster and sea-horse, and you can hunt them on a map. A café serves coffee and cake.
