Reykjafjardarlaug Hot Pool

Two pools, and they are not interchangeable. The built pool sits by the road with a changing hut next to it. Above it, in the slope, lies a small natural pool that fits about four people and runs hotter. Cleanliness and temperature trade off between them: the murkier water is often the more comfortable one, the clearer water too hot to stay in for long. Algae builds up on the concrete between scrubbings, so nothing here looks like a spa. What surrounds the pools is farmland — a house or two, horses in the field, the fjord below. It stays quieter than the hot springs on the main routes, and it is possible to have the water to yourself.

• Two temperatures. One pool runs cooler and cloudier, the other clearer and too hot to sit in for long. Test both before you settle.
• Algae. The concrete gets overgrown between cleanings. The pools are functional, not polished.
• The pool can be drained. It was found empty in May 2026, while the small natural pool above it still held hot water.
• Facilities. A changing hut and a toilet on site. The changing room is decent, the toilet basic and not always clean.

Reykjafjardarlaug stands right off the road on the Westfjords coast, on the shore of the fjord, and you drive straight up to it. There is no walk in: the pools and the changing hut are at the roadside, and finding the place is straightforward. The natural pool lies in the slope just above the built one. The drive through the fjords to get here is worth the detour on its own.
