Jón Sigurðsson Museum

About the place
Hrafnseyri is a lone farm on the north shore of Arnarfjörður, deep in the Westfjords. Jón Sigurðsson was born here in 1811 and later led Iceland's peaceful campaign for independence from Denmark. His birthday, 17 June, is the country's national day. Beside the turf farmhouse stand a small wooden church, an exhibition on his life and a café. The mountain road in is shut much of the year, and the museum opens in summer only.
