Kaldbakur Mountain

Kaldbakur Mountain

About the place

The highest mountain in the Westfjords, Kaldbakur is a pointed 998-metre summit near Þingeyri, on the ridge that divides Dýrafjörður from Arnarfjörður. It is one of the “Westfjords Alps” — sharp peaks unlike the flat table mountains across the rest of the region. Reaching the top is a demanding but non-technical hike in summer, about four hours from the Kvennaskarð pass, with a panorama over the whole peninsula and south to Snæfellsnes.
