Mountain Hut Leygabol
About the place
Leygaból is a sæluhús — one of the plain refuge huts Iceland keeps along its loneliest routes so that a traveller stranded by a storm can survive the night. It stands beside a bleak mountain road in the interior of the Westfjords, far from any village. This is emergency infrastructure rather than a sight: a bare shell offering the minimum of shelter, reportedly in poor repair. Drivers note it as a landmark on an exposed road.
