Hnjotur Bay

Hnjotur Bay

About the place

Hnjótur is a wide, low-key viewpoint above the sandy bay of Örlygshöfn, on the south side of Patreksfjörður. It sits on Route 612, the coast road out to the Látrabjarg cliffs. Below lie pale beaches, shallow water and layered headlands under wide coastal skies. The Egill Ólafsson folk museum shares the spot, marked by old buildings, boats and a beached aircraft. From the first pull-in the view is partial — carry on and the bay opens up.
