Skrúður Botanical Garden

Skrúður lies on a steep slope above Dýrafjörður, sheltered by a low stone wall. Pastor Sigtryggur Guðlaugsson laid it out in 1909 as an outdoor classroom for the school at Núpur, where pupils learned to work the land. Beds of flowers and herbs grow beside hardy trees, on ground that gives little on its own. It was restored and reopened, and won the international Carlo Scarpa garden prize in 2013.
