Osholar Lighthouse

About the place

Óshólaviti stands just outside Bolungarvík, a squat orange tower on a rocky shore where the open sea meets the mouth of Ísafjarðardjúp. It was built in 1937, when the town had no road and lived by the sea; the light marked the safe approach for its fishing boats. The draw is the setting: bright orange against grey rock and steel-blue water, old fishing huts nearby, and a long view across the fjord towards Hornstrandir. A short stop that photographs better than its size suggests.
