Aiguestortes National Park

About the place

The Aiguestortes National Park is a high-altitude sanctuary characterized by its dramatic water systems and massive rock formations. The name refers to the Aiguestortes, or winding waters, where rivers meander through flat mountain meadows creating a complex network of streams. At the heart of the eastern sector lies the Lake of Sant Maurici, a stunning lake situated at the foot of the iconic twin peaks known as Els Encantats. The park’s ecosystem includes dense forests of black pine and silver fir, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife such as chamois and golden eagles. Well-marked trails connect various mountain refuges, allowing visitors to experience the extreme vertical terrain and ancient glacial circles of the Pyrenees.
