Gelat Lake

Gelat Lake

About the place

Gelat Lake lies in a deep basin within the upper Colomers cirque, surrounded by steep granite walls that shelter it from the sun. The icy water and scattered floating icebergs create a sense of pristine cold and absolute stillness. The lake appears carved from the rock itself, forming a natural amphitheater in which the granite peaks rise sharply into the sky. The austere landscape preserves the spirit of early mountaineering expeditions, where each step toward such lakes was a true challenge. This high-altitude lake combines the raw power of the Pyrenees with the elegant simplicity of an untouched alpine environment.
