Alftafjordur View Point

Álftafjörður takes its name from the whooper swans — álft in Icelandic — that summer on its shallows, feeding on the eelgrass beds that also draw geese and ducks on migration. From the pull-off on Route 54 the fjord opens flat and mirror-still in low wind, with farms scattered along the shore and the flat-topped Snæfellsnes mountains across the far side. It is not a hike or a signposted stop, just one of the north coast's most balanced views.
