Sugandisey Island Light Beacon

Sugandisey Island Light Beacon

About the place

The Sugandisey Island Light Beacon is perched on dramatic basalt cliffs that drop sharply into the ocean. The lighthouse was relocated here from Grindavik in 1944 and has become a recognizable symbol of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The bright red color contrasts vividly with the dark basalt and deep blue water. Visitors can take a short walk from the harbor along a well-maintained path with steps. The location is ideal for viewing the Northern Lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer.
