Drangey Island

Drangey is the worn-down core of a volcano that fell silent about 700,000 years ago, a fortress of palagonite tuff standing uninhabited in the middle of Skagafjörður. Its cliffs hold one of the north's great seabird colonies — puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes in the thousands. Its fame comes from Grettir the Strong, the outlaw who lived out his last years here. There is no dock and one path only, cut into the rock, so you come by guided boat tour.
