El Palmeral Palm Grove

About the place
El Palmeral Palm Grove consists of over two hundred thousand trees forming a vast green oasis amidst the urban environment. The sophisticated irrigation system established by the Moors over a thousand years ago remains functional and sustains this grand botanical collection today. The grove is organized into traditional plots known as "huertos," which historically utilized the palm shade to cultivate diverse fruits and vegetables. Its most famous highlight is the "Imperial Palm," named after Empress Sissi due to its rare shape featuring multiple trunks. This site stands as a remarkable testament to the harmony between human engineering and nature, preserved nearly unchanged through the centuries.
