Gatklettur

Gatklettur, the "hole rock," is a basalt arch the Atlantic has worn straight through, on the cliff path between [Arnarstapi](/places/arnarstapi-harbour) and Hellnar. The shore around it is stacked with the hexagonal basalt columns Snæfellsnes is known for, and on a swell the sea drives through the opening. A small viewing deck frames the arch and the water, and fulmars and kittiwakes nest on the ledges. It is windy and loud with birds and surf, best in low side light.
