Ytri Tunga Beach

About the place
Ytri Tunga Beach is located on the southern coast of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Unlike most Icelandic beaches with black volcanic sand, Ytri Tunga has golden sand. The main attraction is the colonies of common and grey seals resting on coastal rocks. At low tide, the seals climb onto algae-covered boulders to bask in the northern sun. The beach provides a rare opportunity to observe these curious marine mammals up close.
