Lysulaugar Mineral Pool

About the place
Lysulaugar is a unique geothermal mineral pool located on the southern coast of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Unlike most Icelandic hot springs, the water here is not only warm but also rich in natural minerals and algae. The water is considered therapeutic due to its high concentration of carbonates and chlorides. The surrounding landscape is quiet and stark: the pool lies in a rural area at the foot of snow-covered mountains, close to the coast with golden sands. The pool floor and walls can be slippery because of algae, which is a sign of the source’s natural purity. In nearby fields, horses and birds can often be seen along streams flowing down from the Snaefellsjokull glacier.
