Gudlaug Baths

Guðlaug Baths is three stacked concrete pools built into the breakwater above Langisandur beach in Akranes, in West Iceland. Designed by Basalt Architects and opened in 2018, it drops from a top viewing deck to a warm middle pool and a shallow paddling pool at beach level. The routine is simple: warm up in the geothermal water, run down for a quick dip in the Atlantic, then climb back into the heat. It carries the name of Guðlaug, remembered locally for surviving a shipwreck off this coast, and feels more like a town pool than a polished spa.
