Akranes Folk Museum
About the place
The museum was founded in 1959 on the old farm at Garðar, on the edge of Akranes. It shows how a West Iceland fishing and farming town lived over the past two centuries. The indoor hall holds household tools, costumes, craft gear and a medical kit. Outside stand nineteenth- and twentieth-century houses, part of a turf farm and a small fleet of boats, with the 1885 oak cutter Sigurfari among them.
