Songhellir Cave

Songhellir Cave

About the place

Songhellir Cave is known for its extraordinary echo, where even a whisper is amplified and resonates off the walls. The cave's name translates as "Singing Cave." It is believed to have been a refuge for Baurdur Snaefellsas, a half-man, half-troll protector of the region. The walls are covered with names and initials of travelers from past centuries. Some inscriptions date back to the eighteenth century, including signatures of notable Icelandic historical figures.
