Hafnarnes Lighthouse

About the place
Hafnarnesviti is a slim orange lighthouse from 1912, but its setting is what stays with you. It stands on a bleak headland at the mouth of Fáskrúðsfjörður, in the former fishing hamlet of Hafnarnes, where up to a hundred people once lived before it emptied last century. Today the tower is the only building still working, alone among grass and ruins. The lane out is blocked with stones, so leave the car and walk the final stretch.
