Petra's Stone Collection

About the place

Petra's Stone Collection fills a house and its garden in the tiny Eastfjords village of Stöðvarfjörður with thousands of stones from the mountains nearby. Ljósbjörg Petra María Sveinsdóttir began collecting in 1946 and opened her home in 1974; her family still runs it as one of Iceland's largest private mineral collections. Indoor shelves and outdoor beds glitter with jasper, agate, amethyst and zeolites, nearly all found close by in these fjords.
