East Iceland Heritage Museum

About the place
Minjasafn Austurlands is the regional museum for the eastern quarter of Iceland, in the middle of Egilsstaðir. One permanent exhibition follows the reindeer brought over in the eighteenth century — now the only wild herd in the country, roaming the highlands behind the town — covering their biology, the hunt, and the use of hide and antler. The other rebuilds an old turf farmhouse room by room, so you can see how an eastern family lived.
