Meleyri Black Sand Beach

About the place
Meleyri is a long strip of black volcanic sand on the Ring Road, just outside the village of Breiðdalsvík in East Iceland. Steep peaks rise behind it, often still holding snow into summer. The beach rarely draws a crowd, so it suits a quiet shore walk rather than a headline stop. The draw is the contrast: dark sand, grey-green mountains and the open North Atlantic, with shells, smooth stones and seabirds along the tideline.
