Ulfseyjarsandur Black Sand Beach

Ulfseyjarsandur Black Sand Beach

About the place

Ulfseyjarsandur Black Sand Beach stretches along the southeastern coast of Iceland beneath the Eystrahorn mountains. The beach takes its name from the small rocky island of Ulfsey located just offshore. The shoreline is formed by vast fields of black volcanic sand contrasting with white surf and dark mountain ridges. Strong winds and ocean currents often bring driftwood and fragments of ice onto the shore. Seals are frequently seen along the coast, while white-tailed eagles glide above the beach.
