Ulfseyjarsandur Black Sand Beach

About the place
Úlfseyjarsandur is the black-sand shore of Búlandsnes, a low headland dotted with shallow ponds at the edge of Djúpivogur in East Iceland. Fine volcanic sand, ground down by old glaciers, gathers into grass-tufted dunes between the open sea and the lakes, whose wetland draws a wide range of birds. The beach takes its name from Úlfsey, a small offshore island. It is a gentle place to walk — sea on one side, birdsong on the other.
