Eggin í Gleðivík (The Eggs of Merry Bay)

About the place
At the old harbour in Djúpivogur, artist Sigurður Guðmundsson set 34 polished granite eggs on the stumps of a disused loading pier. Each copies the egg of a bird that nests around the town, and they run in order of size, so the row reads like a field guide in stone. The biggest is the red-throated diver's, the town's official bird. Installed in 2009, Eggin í Gleðivík is now the emblem of this small Cittaslow harbour town.
