Lake Ibon de Anayet

About the place
Lake Ibon de Anayet is a natural glacial basin resting on a vast peat moor surrounded by the remnants of an ancient volcano. The water's still surface is famous for its flawless reflection of the jagged Midi d'Ossau peak, forming one of the most iconic vistas in the Pyrenees. The terrain here offers a pleasant contrast to the rugged granite highlands, blending the stark Anayet peak cliffs with emerald alpine meadows and winding streams. This plateau is a highlight of the GR11 trail, providing hikers with a unique mix of volcanic geology and sweeping views across the border ridges of Spain and France.
