Lake Ibon de Tebarray

About the place
Lake Ibon de Tebarray is a glacial body of water that occupies the floor of a narrow, steep rocky cirque at the base of the Tebarray peak. The water maintains a deep turquoise hue even under overcast skies, contrasting sharply with the surrounding "lunar" landscape of dark shale and scree. Due to its extreme altitude, this "ibón" (lake) remains covered in ice and snow for much of the year. The trail reaches it via the Tebarray pass, which offers a dizzying view down into the lake's basin and across to the jagged ridges of the Infiernos massif. It is widely regarded as one of the wildest and most austere locations in the central Aragonese Pyrenees.
