Lake Ibon Azul Superior
About the place
Lake Ibon Azul Superior is a classic alpine lake with crystal-clear sapphire water. The highlight of the spot is its position at the foot of 3,000-meter peaks, whose sheer walls are perfectly reflected in the water. The landscape is stark and void of vegetation, consisting only of pale granite and dense snowfields that persist through summer. For hikers on the GR11 route, it serves as a final sanctuary before the steep ascent to the Infierno pass. The atmosphere of total isolation makes this "ibón" (lake) one of the most photogenic spots in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
