Sorrosal Waterfall

Sorrosal Waterfall

About the place

Sorrosal Waterfall descends along exposed flysch layers formed on an ancient seabed and later uplifted during the formation of the Pyrenees. These folded sedimentary rocks create a clearly readable geological section directly behind the water streams. The Sorrosal stream remains suspended above the Ara Valley, a result of glacial erosion that deepened the main valley while leaving the tributary higher. Next to the cascade runs a via ferrata route, allowing climbers to ascend alongside the flowing water. On selected festive evenings, subtle illumination highlights the waterfall against the surrounding rock walls.
