Ibones de Plan de Estan de Alto are located in the heart of the Posets-Maladeta massif above the famous Estan valley. The lakes occupy a plateau that serves as a natural step between green lower valleys and rugged granite peaks over 3000 meters. Views include the Aneto peak and its glaciers, appearing strikingly close from the lakes. The still waters mirror the surrounding ridges, enhancing the sense of remoteness and high-mountain grandeur. Seasonal changes transform the lakes from deep azure basins into networks of shallow ponds, while endemic alpine newts inhabit these icy waters.
