1238: The Battle of Iceland

About the place
A museum in central Sauðárkrókur, in the Skagafjörður district of north Iceland. It covers the Sturlung Age — the 13th-century civil war in which Iceland's most powerful families fought for control of the country before it fell to the Norwegian crown. The exhibition centres on the Battle of Örlygsstaðir of 1238, fought nearby and the largest ever on Icelandic soil, and re-creates it in virtual reality. You read the history, try on replica gear and step into the fight in VR. There is a bistro and a gift shop, and everything runs in English as well as Icelandic.
