Borgarfjordur Eystri Harbour

About the place
Most visitors come to Borgarfjörður eystri for the puffins of Hafnarhólmi. Around 10,000 pairs nest here each summer, in burrows in the grassy banks of the harbour islet, and two viewing decks along the boardwalk put the birds a metre or two from the rail. Kittiwakes, fulmars and eiders share the same cliffs and water. It's a flat two-minute walk from the marina car park — no boat and no hike, which makes it Iceland's most accessible puffin colony.
