Lindarbakki

Lindarbakki

About the place

Lindarbakki sits on the shore road through Bakkagerði, the main village of Borgarfjörður eystri in East Iceland. Its oldest parts date to 1899 and the timberwork mostly to the 1930s. Unusually, it is still lived in — a family returns each summer, so it is a working home rather than a museum. Thick turf walls and a grass roof make it look half-grown out of the ground, which is why cameras stop here.
