Stapavik Bay

Stapavik Bay

About the place

Stapavik Bay is a secluded bay on Iceland’s eastern coast, once used as an important trading harbor. The dominant feature of the bay is the massive Stapavik rock rising straight from the sea. Until the mid 20th century, ships were unloaded here for farms in the Seladalsvik valley. Today, a scenic hiking trail leads along steep coastal cliffs to the bay. Ruins of old loading equipment recall the bay’s former activity and human presence.
