Storurd Trail Head

About the place
Njarðvík is the best-known trailhead for Stórurð, the hike to a bowl of giant boulders below the Dyrfjöll. From the car park a path marked with yellow-topped sticks climbs steadily to a pass, then drops to the boulders and their turquoise pools. Reckoned at about 12 km round trip with the loop around the tarns, it is a real day-hike rather than a stroll. There is parking and a toilet at the start, and a few stream crossings and climbs mean sturdy footwear is essential.
