Hallormsstadur Forest
About the place
Hallormsstaðaskógur is Iceland's largest forest and its first protected woodland — a rare stretch of green in an almost treeless country. About 740 hectares of native birch and planted conifers rise on the slope above Lake Lagarfljót in the east, laced with marked trails and an arboretum of 85 tree species from around the world. Icelanders come here to camp, walk and stand among tall trees.
