Skalanes

About the place
Skálanes is a private nature and heritage reserve of about 1,250 hectares, on a peninsula 17 km east of Seyðisfjörður. It is run from a former farm as a field station for research and education. The land holds tall bird cliffs with kittiwakes, puffins and guillemots, meadows with reindeer and arctic foxes, more than forty bird species and archaeological remains. It is remote and best in summer, when the road is passable and the birds nest.
