Bustarfell Museum

Bustarfell is a turf farmhouse still standing where it grew, rebuilt after a fire in 1770 and lived in until 1966. The same family has held the land since 1532. Its low, grass-roofed rooms — kitchen, pantries, sleeping quarters and workshops — hold the family's own tools, textiles and everyday things, laid out as if the household had just stepped out. Red wooden gables face green fields and mountains. It now belongs to the National Museum's house collection, one of the fullest pictures of Icelandic rural life you can walk through.
