Gljufursarfoss Waterfall

About the place
Gljúfursárfoss sits on the coast near the fishing town of Vopnafjörður, in remote north-east Iceland. Rather than feeding a river, the Gljúfursá pours over a cliff and falls about 45 metres into the fjord, cutting a bright, mineral-streaked gorge. A short path from a pull-out on road 917 reaches a platform over the falls, the ravine and the water, and a marked trail carries on to the shore, where the cliffs are busy with seabirds.
