Budara Hiking Trail

Budara Hiking Trail

About the place

This is the local walk in Reyðarfjörður. It starts in the village, runs behind the Icelandic Wartime Museum and follows the Búðará up its canyon to the waterfall Búðarárfoss. The route is short — about two kilometres there and back — but the views come fast, with the fjord and the grid of houses opening up as you climb. The lower part by the river is gentle; higher up it becomes a steeper gravel road. On clear nights locals come to watch the northern lights over the fjord.
