Selardalslaug Thermal Bath

Selardalslaug Thermal Bath

About the place

A geothermal swimming pool in the green Selárdalur valley, on the bank of the salmon river Selá about 12 km north of Vopnafjörður. Volunteers from the local youth society built it in 1949–50, and the community has kept it running ever since, warmed by a hot spring in the valley. There is a main pool, a hot tub and a children's wading pool, with a sundeck and picnic area alongside — a working village pool rather than a polished tourist lagoon.
