House of Alvarado-Bracamonte

About the place

The House of Alvarado-Bracamonte is an exquisite palace-style mansion in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna on the island of Tenerife. The building was constructed between 1624 and 1631 at the initiative of Governor and Captain-General Diego de Alvarado-Bracamonte. In the 17th century, it served as the residence of the Captain-Generals of the Canary Islands. The architecture features red tuff from the local Las Canteras area, elaborate façade decorations, and a traditional island-style inner courtyard with stone columns. Today, the building is one of the city’s cultural and administrative centers and is recognized as a Spanish cultural heritage site.
